The Gold Plan: The Middle Tier, and When It Is the Wrong Choice

Gold bars stacked in a vault

Gold is the middle of the three tiers. It pays a higher published cap than Starter and a lower one than Liquid Gold. That is the whole of the difference in the headline figures — the rest is judgement.

When it makes sense

Gold is the right tier for someone whose available capital sits in the middle: large enough that Starter is leaving the point of the tier structure behind, small enough that Liquid Gold is more than they are comfortable committing.

When it is the wrong choice

If you are choosing Gold because it "pays more", the reasoning has a gap. The cap is higher, yes. But a higher cap on a larger commitment is a bigger position in something volatile. The relevant question is not which tier pays the most — it is which one you can hold through a bad month without changing your mind. If that answer is Starter, the answer is Starter.

What to read with it

The honest summary

Gold is a reasonable middle choice for a reasonable middle budget. It is not a better deposit than Starter — it is a larger one, and the size is the point. Decide the size on the basis of what you can carry, and then let the tier follow.
